The Gayhead Elementary Playground Fund, Inc.
The Gayhead Elementary Playground Fund, Inc. originated as a playground committee during the 2006-2007 school year, formed by a group of concerned parents. The playgrounds at Gayhead Elementary School were starting to fall apart and pieces were being removed as they failed inspection (a yellow tunnel piece was removed from the K-2 playground that year).
The committee was tasked with raising the $110,000 necessary to replace the two existing playgrounds with three new, age-appropriate playgrounds: a primary K-1 playground and two intermediate playgrounds, for grades 2-3 and 4-5.
To aid in fundraising efforts, we incorporated and applied for non-profit status with the IRS and New York State. We officially became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization retroactive to February, 2007. Donations to the fund are therefore tax-deductible.
