What is scrip?
Scrip is simply a word that means "substitute money" - in other words, scrip is gift cards/ certificates from national and local retailers. They are the same gift cards/certificates that you buy at the store. Many popular retailers participate in our scrip program including JC Penney, The Gap, Exxon/Mobil, Red Lobster and many, many others.
Scrip participating retailers agree to sell gift cards/certificates to our organization at a discount. Member families like your buy the cards/certificates for full face value, redeem them for full face value, and the playground fund keeps the difference as revenue.
The beauty of scrip is that you put your regular household shopping dollars to work. You earn money for our playgrounds without spending a single additional penny. Just spend your regular shopping dollars with scrip at the stores that participate in the scrip program! And scrip can be used for just about any household purchase including food, clothing, entertainment, gasoline and even dining out. For example:
We hope that you will take advantage of this new opportunity to help support the playground, while at the same time enjoying the convenience of ordering gift cards/certificates from home - at no additional cost to you!
To begin using the scrip program, download an enrollment form and an order form at right. Send these with your check (made out to Gayhead Elementary Playground Fund, Inc.) to the playground box in the main office by MONDAYof each week. Orders will be placed weekly, with pickup of your cards on Friday (between 7:30 - 9:30 am or 3:00 - 4:15 pm).
